Janet Near
Director and Company Secretary
I entered the funeral profession 20 years ago when my husband Steven and I created this company. I have two grown up children and my life from a very early age has been lived local to Grimsby. I was educated at the Technical School, Eleanor Street before embarking in a career in hairdressing and before starting this business, I worked at M & S in a supervisory capacity. I am a very keen gardener, enjoy reading, walking, company of family and friends especially over dinner and visiting France. I, together with my brother, am embraced by a very large family through our late parents, instilling great store in basic family values.
Susan (Sue) Meenaghan
Rceptionist at the Immingham Funeral Home
I joined Near & Near Undertakers Ltd in 1994 as their receptionist in the Immingham Office. I am a local girl born and bred in Immingham, where I still live today, together with my husband of 30 years and two grown up children. I come from a large family of 7 children who, but for one, are still living in Immingham. We are all very much part of our local community. In my free time I play in the Grimsby and District Netball league and enjoy weekends away with my husband, walking in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside.
Christopher (Chris) Robinson
Funeral Services Manager
I joined Near & Near Undertakers in 1998, I'm a family man with two teenage children, a local boy having grown up with my sister in the Scartho area. I attended Wintringham School from where, in 1985, I embarked on a career in the funeral service. My interests are varied, including music, the internet and computers, although my favorite pastime, together with my wife, is showing and breeding our English Bull Terrier dogs.
Mark Stratton
Funeral Director
I joined Near & Near Undertakers in 1991, a local man with two children, raised in Grimsby with my brother and sisters. I enjoy socializing and, being an active participant in local darts and pool leagues, am well known throughout the area. I am a keen supporter of a local church and the air training corps and enjoy keeping and breeding show birds.
Steven Near
Company Director
I am a local chap, born in Croft Baker, Cleethorpes and educated in the Yarborough and Hereford Schools. Married to Janet, I have no siblings, a small immediate family, two adult children and one lovely granddaughter. My working life has been varied with the 1970's, to a larger extent, being occupied with a career on the local ambulance service. In 1982 I embarked on my work as an undertaker and after leaving my original business in 1987 Janet and I started the groundwork for the company, now known as Near & Near Undertakers Limited, which opened in January 1988. I enjoy meeting people, music of all genres, watching films, fishing, walking and DIY. I have a fascination with flying, helicopters in particular, and, like my dear wife Janet, love visiting France. I insist on maintaining a very high standard within my profession, standards that overflow into my personal life and together with Janet, Sue, Chris, Mark and our part time colleagues strive to give a service, second to none and envied by all.
