History of the company
In 1982 Steven Near embarked in to the funeral profession with the Co-operative Funeral Service. In 1984 he created Steven Near Funeral Directors and remained there until October 1987. Shortly after which the business was taken over by a multi – national company and as such ceased to be an independent family owned concern.
Near & Near Undertakers was established by Janet and Steven Near in 1988, carrying out their business at The Mews David Street Grimsby, initially under the name of Terence Hartley Funerals.
After a year or so the business name changed to Hartley Near and in 1991 it finally became Near & Near Undertakers.
Near & Near Undertakers Limited is undeniably an independent family business, the longest established in Grimsby
