A Direct Cremation, that might be offered on TV, radio or by a ‘cold call’, is a remote facility with no assistance of a Funeral Director or a service for family and friends.
In essence, it is the removal of your loved one, at a date and time dictated by the company and then, most likely, being taken to a central cremation hub some considerable distance from their home. This is followed by communications and administrations conducted remotely, an impersonal cremation and finally, if required, the subsequent return of the cremated remains some time later.
Near & Near Undertakers offer Direct Funerals, both cremation and burial.
The overwhelming advantage and difference is that everything is arranged and carried out personally and locally.

A Direct Funeral through Near & Near Undertakers ensures
- All the arrangements are carried out locally with a Funeral Director
- The deceased is always treated with the utmost care and respect
- The ability to choose when and where locally the funeral takes place
- Provision of an Environmentally Sustainable Fair Trade coffin
- Return of Cremated Remains within 3 working days (if required)
It is important to note that there is no facility of the Chapel of Rest within this service.
DIRECT CREMATION from £2,325.00
Our Local Direct Cremation includes:
Making all funeral arrangements and providing professional advice
Conveyance of the deceased to one of our funeral home at any time, any day within a 15 miles radius of our funeral homes*
Provision of an Environmentally Sustainable Fair Trade coffin**
Care of the deceased within one of our funeral homes in Grimsby and Immingham
Services of a funeral director and bearers
Conveyance by hearse or suitable vehicle direct to the Grimsby Crematorium
Date and time of cremation by mutual agreement
Crematorium fees for a Direct unattended committal at Grimsby Crematorium
Collection and return of Cremated Remains in a Simple ‘box type’ container (if required)
Optional Private Gathering from £300.00 (additional crematorium fee)
We offer the opportunity for a maximum of 16 people to spend up to 15 minutes, perhaps with a personal choice of music and photographs, to say a private farewell.
Important: This is a private gathering within the principles of a Direct Cremation, therefore there can be no official involvement of a minister of religion, celebrant or service taker.
This is in the ‘Treasured Memories’ chapel at Grimsby Crematorium, Monday to Friday, 09.15 – 15.15.
Date and time of gathering by mutual agreement.
*Conveyance of the deceased from a local private address / care home outside 15 mile radius may incur a mileage charge.

Funeral costs must be paid, IN FULL, within 48 hours of making funeral arrangements.
DIRECT BURIAL from £2000.00 (plus burial / cemetery charges ***)
Our Local Direct Burial includes:
Making all funeral arrangements and providing professional advice.
Conveyance of the deceased to one of our funeral home at any time, any day within a 15 mile radius of our funeral homes*
Provision of an Environmentally Sustainable Fair Trade coffin**
Care of the deceased within one of our funeral homes
Services of a funeral director and bearers
Conveyance by hearse or suitable vehicle direct to a local Cemetery/Graveyard
Date and time of burial by mutual agreement
*Conveyance of the deceased from a local private address/care home outside a 15 mile radius may incur a mileage charge
**Outsize charges may apply
*** Cemetery and burial charges will vary dependent upon the cemetery or church yard and type of grave required.
